What role does Thomas Mann’s lifelong concerns play in today’s world? In what way can the Mann family’s literature and political attitudes provoke us to think about the pressing issues of our times? Migration and exile, gender issues or political engagement and democracy are only a few of the topics that are of great relevance to the present day. ATELIER MONACO - The Festival
München
Munich's literary scenes are more diverse and polyphonic than they have been for a long time: Prose! Poetry! Spoken Word! Theatre texts! Song lyrics! Graphic novels and comics! Radio play! Text-based visual art! Great new literature is being created in many forms today - but only rarely do they appear together on stage. Time for a festival that brings together and celebrates the different literary voices of Munich. ATELIER MONACO - The festival offers for the first time the opportunity for a compact overview: It presents Munich authors*, artists*, musicians* and cooperation projects from different and multilingual scenes.
Conceived by Munich authors and Monacensia as the "best possible literature festival in/despite Corona times", the festival takes place entirely outdoors: On two open-air stages in the garden there are short intensive injections of current literature from Munich.
The festival has its roots in the atelier monaco programme series established in 2018, which has set itself the task of presenting literature beyond all genre boundaries and building a platform for literary networks. In addition to readings, performances, concerts, and art installations, the festival also offers space for texts and conversations about Munich as a place for writing and about the working and living conditions that are available here for artistic creation.
