Thomas Mann Collection. Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale New Haven

Manuscript of "The Story of Jacob" with corrections © S. Fischer Verlag / Photo: Thomas Mann Collection. Yale Collection of German Literature, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

The second largest collection of autographs on Thomas Mann, after the Thomas Mann Archive at the ETH Zurich, was created through a donation of 38 manuscripts from Thomas Mann in 1937 and donations from Agnes E. Meyer in 1957. It was inaugurated in February 1938 with a lecture by Thomas Mann. The collection contains, for example, the manuscripts of the first two volumes of Joseph and his Brothers and the “eliminated and reworked pages from the Magic Mountain”, as well as correspondence from Thomas and Katia Mann.
